Opportunities From: United Way of Central Missouri

Volunteer: Volunteer Opportunity: Missouri River Days – Jefferson City School District

Last school year, we brought this field trip to life for the first time in Jefferson City, and we can't wait to do it again!

This year, Missouri River Relief is once again bringing its Missouri River Days field trips to the Jefferson City School District, giving local 4th graders an unforgettable day of learning and discovery on the Missouri River.

During these half-day adventures, students will:

Explore the journals of Lewis & Clark and create watercolor sketches to take home

Use the cottonwood forest as a living laboratory to study Missouri River bottomland plants

Meet river scientists and get up close with native fish while learning about ecosystem health

Take in spectacular river views while learning about river channelization

To make these days run smoothly, we need 30 volunteers each day. You can help all day (8:30 AM – 2:00 PM) or choose a half-day shift (8:30–12:30 or 12:00–2:30).

Volunteer roles include:

Fitting life jackets

Assisting boat drivers as deckhands

Leading short lessons with 4th graders

Supporting staff to keep kids safe and engaged

This is a one-of-a-kind chance to connect with kids in our community through hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and the magic of the Missouri River. We’d love for you to join us!
