Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) & Public School Personnel

Who We Are

Mission: To promote and protect public education resulting in a financially secure retirement (pension).

MRTA and the educational community works closely together to ensure that our pension and our public education system are not damaged.

The Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel was organized in December 1960 by a group of eleven retired teachers meeting in Jefferson City, Missouri at the Governor Hotel. In 1980, MRTA was incorporated as a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit corporation. MRTA is Missouri’s largest and only Education Association where the Public School Retiree is the #1 priority and is an affiliate of NRTA (National Retired Teachers Association, AARPs Education Community).

What We Do

MRTA’s advocacy and lobbying efforts at the Capitol makes a difference in the lives and pensions of people who are working for public education and to our retirees who have devoted their lives to Missouri public education. MRTA also administers the following programs to support public education, active educators, and public education retirees: Cash for Classrooms, Distinguished Retiree, Unit of Excellence, and Diamond Region.
