UCP Heartland's Gibbs Center for Independence

Founded in 1953, UCP Heartland's vision was to provide a higher quality of life for family members and friends with disabilities, primarily cerebral palsy. Due to changing needs within the disability community, UCP Heartland expanded its focus beyond cerebral palsy to serve people with a spectrum of disabilities, including autism, Down Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our mission is to provide children and adults living with differing abilities extraordinary care and support they need to thrive in school, at home, at work, and in their community. We strive to be the provider of choice for children and adults with differing abilities by providing services and resources to ensure all people have the opportunity to live, learn, engage, and work.

UCP Heartland's Gibbs Center for Independence provides services that empower individuals with disabilities to live more independently. We offer adult day programs focusing on life skills training, socialization, and community engagement. Additionally, our Employment Resources programs focus on job coaching and placement for individuals with disabilities. With a dedicated staff, accessible transportation, and a focus on community integration, we support adults with differing abilities opportunities for personal growth and self-sufficiency.
